Let's get the chronology straight first, Nike Baller ID Band bracelets actually came before the LiveStrong bracelets. In fact, rubber band bracelets of other types have been popular among NBA players since the late 1990's (read more about the rubber bracelet history). Back to the Nike Baller version though, LeBron James was seen wearing them early in 2004. The Baller bands were not all that widely distributed at that time though. Lance Armstrong worked with Nike to launch the LiveStrong bracelets in May 2004, and when the LiveStrong bracelet gained popularity and the most recent rubber bracelet trend got underway, the Baller ID Bands pretty much all sold out. They were nearly impossible to get around Christmas 2004, but the back orders have mostly caught up and it is now possible to pretty easily get your hands on a wide variety of colors and styles of Nike Baller Id Band bracelets. They come in three packs, sometimes paired up with the colors of a particular basketball team, other times not. They come with all sorts of messages on them, usually sports related. The most common ones say "TEAM", "RESPECT", "BALLER" or "PLAYER" or just have a Nike swoosh. The LeBron James one's often say "LJ23" (standing for LeBron James and his number 23). Some of the more unusual ones glow in the dark and are see-through.
Not to be outdone, Adidas has just (early 2005 launch) come up with their own version of the rubber wristband they call "Wrist Stripes" and Reebok has come out with their own version as well.

So, I've been meaning to get around to putting up a page dedicated to Nike Baller Id Band Bracelets for a couple of days, but I've been being lazy about it. Like some sort of sign, Sports Illustrated arrived in my mailbox (I don't even have a subscription) today with a cover shot (Feb 21, 2005 issue) of LeBron James sporting one white Nike Baller ID Band on each wrist. (The picture is really small, but you can see LeBron has a white Nike Baller Band on his left wrist.)
